Before we take a look at the different purchasing options and their prices, it is important that we take a look at what each Solid Edge package contains so that you know what you are getting for your money. There are four different Solid Edge packages with the fundamental difference between them being advancements in functionality. In ascending order of level of functionality, the packages are Solid Edge design and drafting, Solid Edge Foundation, Solid Edge classic, and Solid Edge premium.
Solid Edge Design and Drafting
This package is the most basic Solid Edge package. It contains all the basic tools required for introductory parts and assembly design, standard 2D drafting, basic 3D design, and minimal stimulation

A more in-depth comparative analysis of all Solid Edge packages can be found on the official Siemens PLM website.
Solid Edge license options
This is where it starts to get a bit tricky. There are two license options which apply to every Solid Edge package, both of which come with maintenance and support. They are; subscription license and perpetual license. Now, these two options may themselves be of two types; Node-locked license, and floating license.
Node-locked license
A Node-locked license is a single-seat license that allows a single user to use Solid Edge on a single machine. This license is locked to a specific machine using a number known as a CID (Composite Host ID).
Floating license
A floating license allows a limited amount of multiple users to use the software simultaneously. This license allows for greater flexibility as it can be installed on as many computers as needed, provided the number of simultaneous users does not exceed the number stipulated in the license configuration. Floating licenses are ideal for companies with many employees.
In addition to the node-locked and floating licenses, Siemens PLM also offers travel and home use licenses. These licenses can only be purchased as an addition to the node-locked or floating license. Users can apply for a travel license for up to 30 days in a year. This license allows them to temporarily use Solid Edge on a different machine off-site. The home-use license allows node-locked or floating licenses purchased and installed on an employer’s computer, to be used at home by an employee on a PC. Home use licenses expire after 6 months and have to be renewed. This prevents a situation where a former employee continues to use an employer’s license even after they no longer work together.
Now, let’s get back to the two main license options; subscription license and perpetual license.
Subscription license
The subscription license is a period based option that allows you to use Solid Edge for a limited period of time. This option is best when you are on a budget or when you have the end of your project in sight. Subscriptions are available as monthly or yearly plans with yearly plans being more expensive than monthly plans. These plans are renewed automatically but you can cancel at any time. All subscription plans are single-seat and node-locked. To purchase a Solid Edge subscription license, simply head to the software’s online store.
Perpetual license
As the name implies, payment for this license is made once after which you can use the application indefinitely. However, the license is attached to the Solid Edge version purchased. You can always upgrade to a newer version for a fee. Perpetual licenses may be single-seat, node-locked or floating.
There are many factors to consider when going for a perpetual license; what industry do you work in? What does your company do? Do you require Solid Edge for private use? Do you want a node-locked or floating license? How many users? Would you like to add travel and home use licenses? Because of this, Siemens PLM doesn’t fix any definite price on perpetual licenses. The price of these licenses varies with the factors earlier listed. Price also varies by country. To purchase a perpetual license, you’ll need to contact Siemens PLM or any authorized reseller and provide your details and preferences. You’ll then receive a quote from them on the plan that best suits you.
Solid Edge pricing
Now that we’ve understood the different Solid Edge packages and their license options, let us explore the pricing. We can only explore subscription licenses as prices of perpetual licenses differ according to your requirements. The table below shows Solid Edge packages and their prices in $USD. History[edit]
Solid Edge Software Price In IndiaModeling[edit]Ordered[edit]
The ordered modeling process begins with a base feature controlled by a 2D sketch, which is either a linear, revolved, lofted, or swept extrusion. Each subsequent feature is built on the previous feature. When editing, the model is 'rolled back' to the point where the feature was created so that the user cannot try to apply constraints to geometry that does not yet exist. The drawback is that the user does not see how the edit will interact with the subsequent features. This is typically called 'history' or 'regeneration based' modeling. In both ordered and synchronous mode Solid Edge offers very powerful, easy yet stable modeling in hybrid surface/solid mode, where 'Rapid Blue' technology helps the user to create complex shapes in an intuitive and easy way.
Buy Solid Edge SoftwareDirect[edit]
The Direct modeling features allows the user to change model geometry/topology without being hindered by a native model's existing—or an imported model's lack of—parametric and/or history data. This is particularly useful for working with imported models or complex native models. Direct modeling features are available in both Ordered and Synchronous mode. If used in the Ordered mode, the direct modeling edits are appended to the history tree at the point of current rollback just like any other ordered feature.
Synchronous[edit]
The software combines direct modeling with dimension driven design (features and synchronously solving parametrics) under the name 'Synchronous Technology'. Parametric relationships can be applied directly to the solid features without having to depend on 2D sketch geometry, and common parametric relationships are applied automatically.
Solid Edge Price
Unlike other direct modeling systems, it is not driven by the typical history-based modeling system, instead providing parametric dimension-driven modeling by synchronizing geometry, parameters and rules using a decision-making engine, allowing users to apply unpredicted changes. This object-driven editing model is known as the Object Action Interface, which emphasizes a User Interface that provides Direct Manipulation of objects (DMUI). ST2 added support for sheet metal designing, and also recognizing bends, folds and other features of imported sheet metal parts.
Synchronous Technology has been integrated into Solid Edge and another Siemens commercial CAD software, NX, as an application layer built on the D-Cubed and Parasolid software components.
Assembly[edit]
An assembly is built from individual part documents connected by mating constraints, as well as assembly features and directed parts like frames which only exist in the Assembly context. Solid Edge supports large assemblies with over 1,000,000 parts.
